TEES Valley Mohawks held on to top spot in English Basketball Division Two after recording mixed results in Birmingham.
They opened by edging out Birmingham-Aston Athletic 68-66 in a very close game with American Pierre Sully top-scoring with 17 points followed by Steve Butler (15 points) and David Hanson (13 points).
Twenty four hours later, Mohawks struggled as they chased the game in three of the four quarters when they faced high-flying third in the table University of Birmingham.
Once again Sully scored a match high 28 points but this couldn’t prevent the Mohawks losing 73-70.
Mohawks could have slipped to second if rivals Cardiff Celts had won either of their games, but Celts couldn’t play their two scheduled home games because of a slippery court due to condensation.
This could have further repercussions for the Welshmen as the outcome of the games has been passed to the results committee.
The Mohawks play at home on Saturday against bottom of the table NEWI Nets and they will be hoping to improve their points difference.
Tip-off is at 6.30pm at the Olympia Building, Teesside University.
